The position of Human Resources Assistant was established for the purpose(s) of providing support to the delivery of human resource services with specific responsibility for supporting department staff; providing information to applicants and employees; maintaining clerical records; and completing assigned projects and tasks.
Duties and responsibilities
  • Provide administrative assistance to the department which will aid in the efficient handling of personnel matters
  • Examine incoming correspondence and compose letters/memos for signature in reply to incoming letters or as needed
  • Administer pre-employment proficiency tests for the purpose of ensuring eligibility for employment
  • Assist with employment process for the purpose of ensuring eligibility for employment (e.g. callbacks, scheduling interviews, administer pre-employment proficiency tests, enter information into database, maintain current applications, assist with applicant searches, notifications, etc.)
  • Assist with processing new and terminated employee paperwork
  • Enter data for the purpose of documenting and/or providing reliable information for the quarterly and end of year compilations of responses
  • Maintain a variety of employment files and records (e.g. applicants, test scores, job descriptions, etc.) for the purpose of compiling pertinent employee information, ensuring accuracy of employee's records, maintaining eligibility for position and complying with mandated requirements
  • Process documents and materials for the purpose of developing and disseminating information for appropriate parties (e.g. LAFB/Ft. Bliss badges, notary applications, etc.)
  • Support office personnel for the purpose of helping with their functions (including but not limited to benefits and education/training)
  • Learn and comply with Cooperative’s safety rules and procedures
  • Maintain confidential information
Qualifications
  • Must have at least three (3) years or more of increasing secretarial or office administration responsibility experience (Experience as an office clerk, filing, administrative assistant, secretary or other related field will be considered)
  • Knowledge of the field of human resource administration preferred
  • Ability to exercise discretion and use sound judgment in dealing with people and confidential information
  • Ability to express oneself orally and in writing and to work with people
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Multi-tasking with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to write and proof correspondence for office personnel
  • Ability to learn new computer software programs
  • Possess good typing/keyboarding skills accurately and proficiently
  • Ability to grasp new ideas and concepts quickly
  • Possess a valid Texas driver's license
  • Insurable with the Cooperative's auto insurance carrier
  • Possess excellent oral and written communications skills in the English language
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain a harmonious working relationship with all Cooperative employees
  • Must be or become certified in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and AED
Working conditions
  • Office environment
  • To ensure all employees are provided with drug-free and alcohol-free working conditions, pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable cause and random drug and alcohol tests are conducted on all employees
  • Subject to irregular hours
  • Subject to travel, including multiple over-night stays

Rio Grande Electric Cooperative, Inc. (RGEC) was organized in 1945 to enhance the quality of life for rural residents by providing electric service where none existed. Today, at over 35,000 square miles, RGEC has the largest service territory of any electric cooperative in the contiguous United States, serving 18 counties in Texas, and two counties in New Mexico.
