Job purpose |
Duties and responsibilities |
- Provide high-level administrative support and assistance to the CEO and other assigned leadership staff
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the CEO and internal/external parties. Handle all correspondence promptly and professionally
- Perform clerical and administrative tasks including preparing and/or editing letters, memos, invoices, reports, presentations, and other documents for senior staff and Board of Directors
- Track CEO’s schedules and commitments, anticipate the need for information, support and other background materials to permit CEO to effectively address key issues
- Develop and maintain schedules for training and meeting attendance, travel and other requirements for the CEO and the Board of Directors to ensure effective coordination, communication, and adequate and timely arrangements for attendance at such meetings
- Keep informed of regular, special and other meetings of the Board of Directors, prepare the required notices, reports and other information and develop and maintain minutes of meetings to ensure a comprehensive, official record of the proceedings
- Handle business and confidential mail, write routine correspondence on own initiative, and process electronic communication for the CEO
- Prepare all material pertaining to board meetings, including agenda and make mailings to board members, at periodic intervals, of informative and associated materials
- Coordinate and direct all necessary preparation for election activities and other projects as assigned, ensuring project timelines are met and goals are achieved
- Ensure the executive office operates efficiently by managing supplies, equipment, and necessary office maintenance
- Travel with CEO on both local and out of town trips, as requested
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Learn and comply with Cooperative’s safety rules and procedures

Qualifications |
- Five (5) years or more of executive secretarial experience is highly desirable (Additional education may be substituted for experience)
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to adapt and perform well in a fast-paced and at times stressful environment
- Extensive knowledge of office administration, clerical procedures, and recordkeeping systems
- Extremely proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software with the ability to learn new or updated software
- Ability to devote time necessary to perform job which may include some overnight travel as required
- Possess a valid Texas drivers’ license
- Insurable with the Cooperative's auto insurance carrier
- Possess excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to maintain a harmonious working relationship with all Cooperative employees
- Must be or become certified in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Working conditions |
- Office environment
- To ensure all employees are provided with drug free and alcohol free working conditions, pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable cause and random drug and alcohol tests are conducted on all employees
- Subject to irregular hours
- Overtime hours will be required
- Subject to travel, including multiple over-night stays

Rio Grande Electric Cooperative, Inc. (RGEC) was organized in 1945 to enhance the quality of life for rural residents by providing electric service where none existed. Today, at over 35,000 square miles, RGEC has the largest service territory of any electric cooperative in the contiguous United States, serving 18 counties in Texas, and two counties in New Mexico. While it still serves rural areas, many metropolitan areas have expanded into RGEC’s territory, which now includes hospitals, schools, and urban housing developments.
The Cooperative was also selected by the military to be the electrical maintenance provider for Fort Bliss, El Paso, and Laughlin Air Force Base, Del Rio. RGEC maintains offices in Alpine, Brackettville, Carrizo Springs, Dell City, El Paso, and Fort Stockton, with the Brackettville office serving as corporate headquarters.
