Compliance Specialist
| Job purpose |
The Compliance Specialist supports the Cooperative’s regulatory, operational, and documentation requirements by performing administrative, tracking, verification, and reporting functions under the direction of the Chief Compliance Officer. This role ensures compliance activities are completed accurately, deadlines are met, and records are maintained in an organized, audit-ready condition.
| Duties and responsibilities |
- Policy Management: Assist in drafting, formatting, and updating organizational policies, programs, procedures, and manuals. Maintain the official policy repository and ensure version control. Track policy review cycles and notify responsible departments of required updates. Prepare distribution-ready policy documents and maintain acknowledgment records.
- Compliance Support: Monitor regulatory deadlines, renewal dates, and reporting schedules. Maintain compliance calendars and notify supervisors of upcoming obligations. Prepare draft forms, filings, and supporting documentation for review. Track regulatory changes and help summarize impacts for leadership review.
- Documentation & Recordkeeping: Maintain organized, audit-ready compliance and policy files (digital and physical). Ensure policies, procedures, manuals, and plans are current and properly distributed. Assist with updates to internal compliance documents. Support document retention practices in accordance with policy.
- Audits & Inspections: Preparing materials for internal and external audits. Gather records, logs, certifications, and evidence needed for inspections. Track corrective actions and follow‑up items as assigned. Conduct basic internal checks (e.g., verifying posted notices, checking expiration dates, confirming documentation completeness).
- Training & Communication: Assist with coordinating compliance and policy‑related training sessions and maintain attendance records. Prepare communication materials summarizing regulatory updates and policy or procedural changes. Respond to routine compliance questions and escalate complex issues.
- Operational Support: Maintain logs for safety, environmental, utility, or operational compliance. Assist with vendor compliance verification (insurance, certifications, licensing).
- Administrative & Executive Support: Provide support to administrative and executive functions and/or tasks as needed.
- Assist with other duties as assigned
- Learn and comply with Cooperative’s safety rules and procedures

| Qualifications |
- Associate degree in related field preferred
- 1–2 years of administrative, policy, or compliance-related experience
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple tasks and work independently to meet deadlines and exercise sound professional judgment
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business documents, technical procedures, and government regulations
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Possess excellent oral and written communications skills in the English language
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to maintain a harmonious working relationship with all Cooperative employees
- Possess a valid Texas drivers’ license
- Insurable with the Cooperative's auto insurance carrier
- Must be or become certified in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Must be or become a Notary Public

- To ensure all employees are provided with drug free and alcohol free working conditions, pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable cause and random drug and alcohol tests are conducted on all employees

Rio Grande Electric Cooperative, Inc. (RGEC) was organized in 1945 to enhance the quality of life for rural residents by providing electric service where none existed. Today, at over 35,000 square miles, RGEC has the largest service territory of any electric cooperative in the contiguous United States, serving 18 counties in Texas, and two counties in New Mexico. While it still serves rural areas, many metropolitan areas have expanded into RGEC’s territory, which now includes hospitals, schools, and urban housing developments.
The Cooperative was also selected by the military to be the electrical maintenance provider for Fort Bliss, El Paso, and Laughlin Air Force Base, Del Rio. RGEC maintains offices in Alpine, Brackettville, Carrizo Springs, Dell City, El Paso, and Fort Stockton, with the Brackettville office serving as corporate headquarters.
